Artist in residence: Dimitris Papaioannou

LMU, February 16-27, 2026

 

A two-week residency conceived, organized, and curated by Katerina Zacharia, welcoming internationally acclaimed Greek director, choreographer, and visual artist Dimitris Papaioannou — creator of the Athens 2004 Olympic Ceremonies — to Loyola Marymount University. Events included public screenings, film discussions, dance workshops for LMU students, and a six-hour video installation, bringing together LMU students, faculty, and the wider Los Angeles community.

MYSTERIES OF TRANSITION:

ANCIENT NARRATIVES AND MODERN ELEUSIS

February 13–15, 2025

 

Curator, Host, and Moderator. 

 

A curated film screening series exploring the city of Elefsina (Eleusis) — one of the most sacred sites of antiquity and home to the Eleusinian Mysteries — bridging its ancient past with its evolving present. Featuring works produced as part of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture program, the series brought together documentary, experimental, and short films that illuminate the city's enduring power as a space of ritual, memory, and artistic innovation. Held at Loyola Marymount University and free and open to the public.

LMU GREEK CINEMA WEEKEND:

1ST LAGFF DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL

January 31–February 1, 2026

 

 Curator, Host, and Moderator. The inaugural LAGFF Documentary Festival at LMU, co-hosted with the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival. A weekend of documentary screenings and post-screening discussions exploring contemporary Greek culture and society.

Curator, Host, and Moderator. An interdisciplinary scholarly inquiry into Greek cinema exploring hospitality, xenophobia, and forced displacement through eleven films. Sponsored by the LMU Department of Classics & Archaeology, the Department of Film, Television & Media Studies, and the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts.
